These are the days you'll remember
When you're 62 with your kid that's all grown up
And you're reminiscing about when you were their age
And when you were young
And had so much time ahead of you
And you smile
And tell them about your friends
The ones that mattered the most
The ones you still have
The ones you miss more than anything
And you'll tell them about that time where you felt the world stand still
And you felt peace
Listening to records and making music
And trying not to grin too big, or laugh too obnoxiously, but not being able to stop
And you'll remember the late night runs to Hardee's for milkshakes and fries
Because it was the only restaurant open 24 hours in your hometown
And that time you threw french fries at seagulls in the community college parking lot
And shared your secrets
Or the dinners with friends that became family
Getting too drunk on B-52's and chatting in the kitchen
About how you're scared you might be in love
But you're not sure because you forgot what it felt like for a while
But how they helped you remember what you're worth
With hugs and food and games and stories
And you're excited and scared to see where the feelings will take you
And listening to records with your dad
Having these same conversations
Hearing the same stories, but from his life
When he built a house in California
When he lost the thermostat in his college apartment
The first time he saw Patti Smith live
The vacations with his kid - you - and your friends
Making up stories in the back seat of the car
All ten hours of the drive
And laughing until you cried
And you'll tell them how grateful you are for those days
How you hope they'll have days like that
With people they'll never forget
